February 25, 2010, Louisville, Ky. – Breaking New Grounds and Amazing Green Planet will partner March 13 and 14 to raise awareness about composting and raise funds for the composting nonprofit. Two composting workshops, led by Breaking New Grounds board member Mark Forman, are scheduled at 1 and 3 p.m. on March 13 at Amazing Green Planet in Westport Village, 1301 Herr Lane. Attendees will learn about the composting process and the ease of doing it at home. In addition, Amazing Green Planet will donate 20 percent of the weekend's sales of all composting equipment to Breaking New Grounds. "We at Amazing Green Planet are thrilled to partner with Breaking New Grounds to educate the community about composting. We feel that it's a natural fit with what BNG is aiming to accomplish," said Dustin Baron, Vice President, Amazing Green Planet. "We're grateful for the support of Amazing Green Planet and Dustin's initiative to partner with us to educate people about the values of composting at home," said Sarah Fritschner, Executive Director, Breaking New Grounds. "The workshops will show people how easy it is to compost at home and turn waste into wonderful soil for their garden." Amazing Green Planet, a green lifestyle store, will sell Life's Magic, Breaking New Grounds' ultra-nutritious worm compost. Life's Magic is made from composted Heine Bros.' Coffee grounds, spent grain from Brown-Forman and local food waste. Red worms feast on the compost and turn it into a rich soil amendment that helps your plants sprout fast and grow strong. Breaking New Grounds won the 2009 LIVE UNITED Social Innovation Prize designed for changemakers in Kentuckiana who are prepared to put their ideas into action. Breaking New Grounds recently inked a deal with internationally recognized urban farming pioneer Will Allen and his Milwaukee-based Growing Power organization to serve as a regional training center, further extending their mission with practical training programs designed to teach sustainable urban farming practices.
