Identify leadership qualities of Hal Moore possess in the movie and debate whether they were not or effective

We Were Soldiers tells a story of the first military undertaking into North Vietnam by the United States. The United started pioneered a new way of attack using helicopters, and Hal Moore was the leader of the new attaches’ technique. Hal Moore was an educated man and a dedicated leader who understood the different challenges and the possibilities of the new system failing. However, he uses his leadership skills to influence his fellows making the system a success. Through a series of bravery, triumph, and loss, the men fought for their country because they believe in and for each other (Moore). Therefore, the movie portrays a genuine a story of real courage and how important correct leadership is depicted in various positions of life.

The movie demonstrates the real qualities of leadership through Lieutenant Colonel Hal Moore while leading his troops in Vietnam. He is a true captain because he influences his people by example, praise and congratulations, enthusiasm, equality, responsibility and learning from misjudges of his predecessor. For instance, Moore used different techniques to win the war. The first method he used was to lead the tropes by example (Moore). Setting standards in leadership usually include practicing what one preaches and earn respect in his administration techniques (Parker,45). In the movie, during the part he had the night the left for the war, he gives a speech to the unit and swears that he does not promise them that they were going to come back alive, but he was going to bring them all back home. He was going to be the first to step foot on the ground and the last to step out of it. True to his speech he was the last to leave the battlefield after all the soldiers were removed from the area.  He leads by example in the battlefield through his performances of boldness and his repudiation to give up during the war (Moore). Therefore, leaders who lead by example are usually successful in their organization because the subjects often feel motivated work.

Moore’s leadership also appears on how he treats his people with respect and dignity.  During his speech, he illustrates that every man in the group, despite his color or place of birth is an important member of the troop. The address was used to build confidence, cohesiveness, and self-respect among the members of the unit, which in turn developed trust and unity among the group members.  Additionally, Moore is persistent in his pledge to victory during the war in Vietnam. He demonstrated that he had a vision that he wanted to attain at the end of the war. He was an incredible leader who orders the last respect of his combatants, and he is maniacal in his pledge to war and supposes that he will demonstrate victorious at the end of war. As an example, when he is told of the size of the enemy troop he is not bothered by the fact that the enemy has a big number of soldiers. He ignores the advice of staying at the mountain and moves this trope to the valley where he sets up a defensive combat with the assistance from the second Battalion he wins the battle (Moore). Similarly, Tittemore (25) demonstrates that a leader must display confidence and be visible under any circumstance because the determination to succeed must be felt by every in the group.

A leader must always trust in his instincts, an individual’s Instincts and intuition provide an immediate estimate of a situation (Parker,46). Moore trusted his instincts and his intuition provided him a quick estimation of the position on the battlefield that is why he opted not to remain at the mountain but move the tropes to the valley and create reinforcement for the war. Moreover, the effectiveness of Moore is demonstrated by his emotional intelligence characteristics towards his subordinates (Moore). Therefore, feelings moods and information play a significant role in leadership skills in the character and how an individual manages his moods and emotions contribute to effective leadership in a teamwork context.

Finally, people who are highly motivated in a group remain highly focused even when they are faced with numerous challenges (Parker,47). In the film, it occurs in the middle of the battle when the enemy outnumbers Moore. Moore was still optimistic that they were going to win the battle, and this is what gave him hope to make the entire group remain confident during the war. Apart from this, Moore also motivated members of the unit by giving them compliments. He recognized their duties and recognition of achievement is one of the ways of motivating people in a group. He also displayed empathy for his men during the war, and this happens when he gives his water to the wounded soldier. Lastly, he had the ability to build a rapport with others and get them to cooperate and move them in the desired direction.
